It is paper mache and has been beautifully hand painted with a landscape painting in the center and gold leaf designs around the edges. It has a repaired crack as you can see on the bottom as well as chips in the paper mache on the bottom but these are not very visible on the top. It is over 200 years old so I think it is still in good condition considering
