Our results show that the approximately 20% of the US adult population who score in the 3-7 range on the K6, well below the 13 and above cut-off for defining serious psychological distress, were 40% more likely to be current smokers, were more likely to want to or to try to quit smoking, but were 20% less likely to successfully quit smoking than people with K6 scores in the low range 0-2
