This listing is for an urushi lacquerware bowl made around 40 50 years ago. It is coated in vermilion coloured lacquer and the lid is decorated with peony flowers. The bowl is wooden, and the flowers were created using the makie technique. Peonies were introduced from China during the 6th 7th century and symbolise courage and strength.
